The name of a redesigned Chromanator was changed to CompositeLab DV completing the new ‘Lab’ branding. Updates were regularly released, with feedback from the online community playing a key role in the addition of new features. In 2005, CSB-Digital became FXhome Ltd and released the first Lab series product EffectsLabDV, which took advantage of technological changes in home computer processors and consumer cameras.
The AlamDV range continued to grow with 3 versions of the main product and a pluggin Chromanator released between 20. Releasing an updated version of the software, AlamDV2 came to the attention of Apple, who approached CSB-Digital to develop iMovie pluggins, which were released in 2001 under the brand iPluggins. Inspired by classic sci-fi and action movie effects, they developed a program that made it easy for users to create laser weapons, explosions and muzzle flashes.ĭuring its first year the company experienced significant growth and increased the development and user support teams. The founders saw a potential market for an easy to use, affordable and fun visual effects product, which would appeal to the growing number of internet fan-film producers.
Initially called CSB-Digital, the company marketed AlamDV, a software pluggin originally created by Josh to help a family member with the special effects required for his film degree projects. FXhome was founded in 2001 by three recent UEA graduates: Joshua Davies, Toby Walsh and Dave Cranwell.
